As the largest research unit of The University of Texas at Austin, ARL has approximately 700 staff members, including scientists, engineers, faculty members and students. Typically, 20% of the total laboratory staff are graduate or undergraduate engineering and science students.

Research projects at ARL:UT involve contributors from multiple disciplines and usually encompass some aspects of theoretical and analytical analysis, computer simulation and modeling, hardware development and prototyping, and field testing.
